T3G Selects Cadence Incisive Platform to Speed Time-to-Market for Mobile Phone Chipset in China; T3G Chooses Incisive Verification for Its Speed and Efficiency
BEIJING—(BUSINESS WIRE)—May 19, 2004—
Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NYSE:CDN) today announced
that T3G has selected the Cadence Incisive(TM) functional verification
platform to verify IC and develop a reference design for China's
next-generation TD-SCDMA mobile phone. T3G chose the Incisive platform
because it provides the speed and efficiency to significantly reduce
overall verification time, critical for faster time-to-market. The
creation of the reference design also accelerates the
commercialization of the TD-SCDMA standard and greatly advances the
development of China's TD-SCDMA mobile communications industry.
T3G is a joint venture company comprised of Datang Mobile
Communications Equipment Co., Ltd., Royal Philips Electronics and
Samsung Electronics. T3G specializes in providing handset companies
with a complete solution that includes a system reference design,
hardware platform, software, TD-SCDMA/GSM/GPRS dual-mode handset
chipset design, and customized technical support. T3G verified its
TD-SCDMA reference design using the Incisive unified simulator, a
comprehensive verification environment that delivers full
transaction-level support and unified test generation, as well as
Incisive Conformal(R) ASIC, which provides equivalence checking to
minimize the risk of silicon respins. The speed and comprehensiveness
of the Incisive platform, coupled with Cadence's strong technical
support, helped T3G significantly reduce its research and development
time.
"T3G selected the Cadence Incisive functional verification
platform for its TD-SCDMA/GSM/GPRS dual-mode handset chipset and
reference design," said Dr. Chen-Hui Chiang, modem IC project leader
of T3G Technology. "We've taken advantage of the Incisive unified
simulator to confirm that the T3G design meets functional
requirements, and the Incisive Conformal ASIC to speed up netlist
signoff. We selected Cadence because of the Incisive platform's
exceptional performance, and our choice has led to success. We are
glad that Cadence, as the industry leader, supports the 3G TD-SCDMA
handset chipset design."
The T3G member companies are working together to develop TD-SCDMA
core chipsets and commercialized products, which are considered the
cornerstones of the development of China's TD-SCDMA industry. Datang
Mobile, an expert in TD-SCDMA technology, has developed a testing
prototype for TD-SCDMA. Philips, one of the world's largest suppliers
of handset core chips, is highly experienced in GSM, GPRS and 3G
mobile technology, and possesses excellent IC design and production
capacity. Samsung is one of the world leaders in end-product
technology. The TD-SCDMA standard, developed by Datang and Siemens,
has expedited operators' migration from existing second generation to
third generation networks.
Cadence China Country Manager, Wayne Tang, said, "TD-SCDMA is the
new mobile standard in China, and we understand that time-to-market is
crucial to the success of new products based on that technology. By
using Incisive Conformal ASIC, T3G can take advantage of equivalence
checking and an implementation-specific functional property-checking,
enabling designers to verify and debug designs quickly and
exhaustively without using test vectors. Conformal ASIC reduces
verification time by exhaustively verifying multi-million-gate designs
orders of magnitude faster than gate-level simulation, leading to
reduced time-to-market and minimizing respin risk."
